A Good Source of Energy

Pellets are a good source of energy as they are very dense and have a very low moisture content, this provides consistent combustion. During combustion, any water must first evaporate before ignition can occur. The higher the moisture content the more energy it requires to ignite, and therefore reducing the systems efficiency. For this reason, only approved wood pellets can be used.

Renewable Fuel

Wood pellets are classed as a renewable carbon because they are used from either the waste produced in the timber industry or from a sustainable forest. A sustainable forest is a forest that is carefully managed so that as trees are felled they are replaced with seedlings that eventually grow into mature trees.

How are pellets delivered?

Wood Pellets can be purchased in two different ways, either bagged in various sizes or in bulk. Bulk deliveries are blown direct from the tanker into the hopper through a flexible hose. Bulk blown pellets are considerably cheaper.

Wood Pellet Supplies

Wood Pellets come in a wide range of qualities and sizes. It is highly recommended that your pellets meet with the EN plus standard EN14961-2 as follows:

• No longer than 6mm
• Moisture content below 10%
• Calorific value of 4.8 – 5.2kWh/kg
• Ash content of <1% (low)
• Bulk density of around 650kg/m3
• Chlorine content of 0.03% or less
• No additives

If you use inferior pellets this may cause operating problems and may even invalidate your manufacturer’s warranty.
