Open Solar Online Tutorial

Please use this guide to fully understand the details of your proposal and how to utilise all its features.

System Options

Here you can select which quotation you would like to view. You can swap between the quotations at any time, to compare each of the different sections.

Key Information

This section shows you the key information about your quotation, including the system size, annual generation, system price and payback period.

Quoted Materials

This section shows you the materials that are included in your quotation. Here, you can click ‘Details’ to show you the datasheets for the products. The line at the bottom details the warranties for each.

Please note: on all our batteries and inverters, we upgrade your Manufacturer’s Warranty to 10 years, free of charge.

Energy from Solar

This summarises the percentage of your energy that will be covered by your Solar PV.

System Performance

The graph shows your estimated generation on an average day each month of the year. Hovering over each bar will show you a breakdown of how much you will generate and how much you will consume from this generation per month.

Self-Consumption and Export to Grid

These figures explain how your Solar PV will be used. In this example, 66% of the Solar generation will be used within the home, and 34% will be sold to the grid.

If you click ‘Daily Energy Profile’ it will take you to a graph, which explains in detail how your energy will be used each day.

Daily Energy Profile

The graph contents are explained here. If you click ‘Winter, Spring, Summer or Autumn’, you will see graphs for weekdays / weekends for different seasons.

Environmental Benefits

Here, you can track your positive impact on the environment.

Energy Bill Savings

The graph on the left shows you the difference between your monthly electricity bill before solar, and your electricity bill after you have solar installed – be prepared to be excited by this! The graph on the right shows you the bill savings you could achieve over 20 years.

Click ‘Detailed Savings Table’ to see a breakdown of your bill savings, and how these graphs have been calculated.

Here, you can see a complete breakdown of your savings.

Net Financial Impact

The graph here shows you the cumulative savings from your system, from initial investment, all the way to the end of the expected lifetime of the system. You will see in this example, that the system pays itself back in year 7, at which point the graph goes into the positive – which is represented by blue bars. Everything beyond this point is free savings!

If you click ‘Detailed Financials’, this will give you some further statistics related to your system.

Detailed Net Financial Impact

These figures are a little bit more complicated, so here are some definitions you will come across:

Net Present Value: The initial investment’s value in today’s money, accounting for the time value of money.
Payback Period: The amount of time your system will take to generate enough savings to pay off the initial cost of the system.
Discounted Payback Period: The payback period discounted to the present value of money.
Total Return on Investment: The overall financial gain from the Solar PV as a percentage of the initial cost.
Rate of Return on Investment: The return on investment that you will see each year.

If you click on the ‘Detailed Annual Financial Table’, this will show you how these figures have been calculated and show you a yearly breakdown.

Breakdown Table

Clicking on ‘Detailed Annual Financial Table’ shows you a complete yearly breakdown.

Quotation

Here you will find a summary of the price for your system. In the highlighted box will be a breakdown of your key components.

How Your System Works

The graph at the bottom (centre) demonstrates how your system will work during the day, when you are generating more than your house or battery are demanding. You will see how much your Solar is generating, and how a portion is sent to the house, the battery and to the grid.

The graph on the right shows how your system will work during the day, when the house is using more electricity than is available from the Solar PV or Batteries. The Solar PV and Batteries will cover all that they can, and the grid will top up the house with any excess required.

The graph on the left shows how your system will work at night. The batteries will will be powering your home, and the grid will be covering anything over this.

MCS Details & Shading Information

This section summarises all the technical information required by MCS about your system generation and performance.

Additionally, below this, at the very bottom of the page is your shading diagrams, that shows the shading analysis of your roofs, that has allowed the software to calculate your performance. The red indicates shading on the property.
